Two Awesome Events Take Place This Weekend
Yes! What an awesome weekend of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ahead of us. Arista Invitational holds their 2nd event tomorrow and Substars has an amazing card in store for tonight. Let's take a look at the matches that are set to go down.
Substars:
In the main event, Gordon Ryan squares off with Aaron Johnson. Ryan is by far the biggest name in the No Gi Jiu Jitsu world. He returns to action against a tough opponent in Johnson who recently relocated to train at Fight Sports Miami
The co-main event will be between two legends of the sport, hometown favorite Roberto “Cyborg” Abreau and Rafeal Lovato Jr. Abreau recently won the Kasai heavyweight crown and No Gi Worlds. Lovato has of late been active in MMA capturing the Bellator Middleweight title. Watch out for explosive takedowns some serious guard passing.
On the main card, Felipe Andrew steps in for Keenan Cornelius to challenge Patrick Gaudio. This pair competed twice recently at the IBJJF Europeans in Lisbon last month. Fellipe won the first match via referee decision in the open class and then Gaudio won the second match via kneebar in the weight class Final. Who takes round 3? Maggie Grindatti will meet Luiza Monteiro, Nicky Rod takes on Roosevelt Sousa and veteran JZ Calcante will take on Nicky Ryan.
Arista Invitational 2:
The main event is a 20-minute submission-only super-fight between seasoned competitor Marcio Andre and Mendes Brother’s prodigy Johnatha Alves. Two innovative and dynamic players with a complete arsenal of attacks.
Also on the main card, is an eight-man brown and black belt absolute. Matches will be eight minutes long under IBJJF rules. Winner takes home $1,000 cash prize.
