Big Time Superfights This Weekend
As grappling becomes more and more popular the fans keep on winning. This weekend we will see two high-quality events take place on two different sides of the planet. The first, Grapple Fest 8 taking place in Liverpool, Great Britain on Saturday, February 29th at 8 am (PST).
Grapple Fest has put on amazing shows in the past having competitors onboard such as Gabriel Arges, Paulo Miyao, Craig Jones, and many more. This card will feature a title match up and main event including two opponents coming off of well respected ADCC performances. Adam Wardzinski from Checkmat will take on the 10th Planet prospect Jon Blank. This will be a No-Gi match featuring a style match of Adam's advanced butterfly guard versus Jon's well rounded No-Gi and leg locking strategies.
As a Co-Main event, they have set up young ATOS star Tye Ruotolo versus a red hot Dante Leon (GFT). Dante Leon has signified his spot in today's top grapplers with very impressive performances as of recent. He has beaten Lucas Lepri, Renato Canuto, Mateus Lutes, and became a black belt No-Gi world champion in the last six months. His opponent, the young and entertaining Tye Ruotolo is coming back after staying very active after ADCC.
Kade Ruotolo (Tye's twin brother) will be facing Ashley Williams for the 70kgs title in the match prior. This will also be a very technical grappling match as Ashley Williams uses a very unique and aggressive style when versing in higher-tier talent. He is looking for his first title defense tomorrow night against a difficult and dangerous foe.
The undercard and prelims will feature local talent as well as features from Absolute MMA, Renzo Gracie Academy, 10th Planet, and more. Make sure to tune in live on Flograppling.
BJJ Fanatics will also put on their 3rd Grand Prix event tomorrow night featuring a huge twist. The card will start with a submission only grand prix format offering a cash prize for the champion. The names listed to compete are yet again insane. The grand prix will begin with Jonnatas Gracie Vs Johnny Tama, Kody Steele vs Oliver Taza, John Combs vs Matheus Gonzaga, and PJ Barch vs Ethan Crelinsten. Some of these matchups are World Championship caliber and are promising to blow the roof off.
As the main event twist, we will see Gordon Ryan versus Pat Downey in two matches on the same night. The first will be a no time limit and submission only match. The second follows with a wrestling match under international wrestling rules. In between each match, there will be a break in the action to allow the athletes to rest. Will Gordon Ryan rise against the champion wrestler Pat Downey and beat him at his own game?
The grappling community sure has mixed opinions but tomorrow night we find out what becomes history.
